About Me

Welcome to Far Above Rubies!

I am Melissa...and this is me:

My husband and I have been married for 19 years, and he is my hero!  We met each other in high school, where I fell head-over-heels for him while in 9th grade and told all of my friends I would marry him one day!  Our story includes him going off to college for a time, reuniting later in my high school years, and marrying when I was just 21 years old.

We now have three rewards from God, and we homeschool!  Our oldest son is twelve years old, is entering seventh grade, and is a natural leader like I've never seen before.  He keeps me on my toes mentally!  Our middle is our only girl.  She just turned 11 years old and is entering sixth grade. She is the sweetest girl in the world, and we joke that her middle name is "I-can-do-it-myself".  She likes to sing songs--and is quite good!  Our youngest son just turned nine, and is entering fourth grade.  He was a NICU baby, is still a snuggly bug, and likes to try everything big brother does.

We live in the great state of Alabama now, though we are originally from South Carolina.  Southerners in every way, except that neither of us talk like southerners!  Don't believe me?  Let's talk one day!  :)

I am excited to be writing here on topics such as marriage, motherhood, homemaking, homeschooling, womanhood, and about my personal journey!  The Lord has been so faithful to continue to work on me.  I'm not "done" yet...but I know He is working extra hard to complete the work He has begun in me!  I'm not perfect.  (There, I said it.)  I'm REAL.  (Some may say TOO real.)  And my heart is for women.

I am thankful for all of you who are here at Far Above Rubies, whether you are new here, or if you've been here for a while.  I want you to know that I pray for you all, and that I want to get to know you as I write here!  I do not write just to tell you my thoughts, but so that we can have community here via this World Wide Web.

The journey I have been on for the past few years has been painful, and yet so good.  I look forward to sharing it with you!

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope you'll stick around!
